Rev. Dr. Derrius M. Colvin Sr.
Dr. Colvin was elected Pastor of the First Progressive Church in March 2003. His motto for the church is to be a Bible Believing, Bible Reading, and Bible Teaching congregation. He stands on the principle that Christians must be doers of the word and not just hearers only.
Prior to becoming a member of First Progressive Church, Dr. Colvin was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for more than thirty years. During that time, he worked in numerous leadership positions. Dr. Colvin received his call to the ministry and was licensed, as well as ordained, as a minister while at Mt. Carmel.
Dr. Colvin worked for IDHS (formerly known as the Illinois Department of Public Aid) for twenty years. Dr. Colvin attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. He further received a Master of Arts in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago (Chicago, IL), and a Master of Arts in Religion/Urban Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, IL). Dr. Colvin received his Doctorate in Ministry from Northern Theological Seminary (Lombard, IL) in June 2016.
Dr. Colvin is married to his wife Anita and they have three adult children.
